Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2010, Royal Observatory – 6 February 2011

During a day trip to Greenwich yesterday, my friend suggested that we checked out the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2010 exhibition at the Royal Observatory.

Idon’t think I know enough about astronomy to fully appreciate the images… but my friend was well inspired… stopping in the museum shop on the way out to check out the price of telescopes!

Still, I was impressed by the quality of the images and the amount you could see (there were a few of the moon that were spectacularly detailed).

Interestingly, the images that will stay with me are the ones of Pfeiffer Beach sunset and the one of the Northern Lights in Canada. Both earth grounded images and not images of constellations and planets. Make of that what you wish.

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2010 exhibition is on at the Royal Observatory (Greenwich) until 27 February 2011. Admission free.
