Hong Kong

I’ve just finished reading The Piano Teacher.

The book is set in Hong Kong around WW2. The place sounds so eclectic. Quite intoxicating at times. With a wide mix of people.

Hong Kong is one of these places that people invariably visit on their way to and from places. A great stop-over.

I haven’t been yet. But I hear that it is a place like nowhere else. The book certainly conveys this impression. Since the period described in the book, Hong Kong has reverted to Chinese rule. I wonder whether it has changed that much.

I have the feeling that it’s the kind of place that will remain original no matter what.

I love the fact that a book is making think about places far way. Putting the sense of adventure back into my life…
