Turner Inspired: In the Light of Claude – National Gallery, May 2012

‘Turner Inspired: In the Light of Claude’ leaflet (May 2012)

This Turner exhibition turned out to be a revelation about an artist known as Claude.

Claude’s style, I find, is clean. The colours bright. His paintings pleasing on the eye.

Seeing his works next to Turner’s, it’s easy to see how the latter was influenced by Claude.

I did get a bit more out of Turner as a result.

And from Turner, the transition to the Impressionists is obvious.

Turner Inspired: In the Light of Claude is at the National Gallery until 5 June 2012. Admission fee.
