Botswana and Zambia – Makgadikgadi Salt Pan (June 2012)

Makgadikgadi Salt Pan (June 2012)

Makgadikgadi Salt Pan, early morning (June 2012)

We camped on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan for a night.

Absolute silence around us.

No one around for miles. And miles.

Walking on the pan with our eyes closed (an experiment we first conducted on the Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia, years ago). Laughing at our inability to walk in a straight line. Hilarious. Every time.

Bitterly cold at night. And yet, not able to tear ourselves away from the sky.

No light pollution = stars.

So many stars. All around us. From the horizon up.
