We’re edging slowly, slowly, towards Autumn.
I don’t mind too much. That’s probably my favourite season. The blue sky, the sharpness in the air, the smell of the dew in the morning, the leaves changing colours… Yes, Autumn is fine; it’s Winter in England I can’t cope with. The long months of darkness and damp, and rain.
Arghhh. Not yet. I won’t think about that just yet. We still have a few days of sunshine and warmth ahead of us. Windows opened. Free toes. Salads for dinner. Making the most of it. And wishing, wishing, I had a south facing garden.
Things have been tough here recently. Things are tough here. Still.
Thankfully, the end of the week is near… and I have a long weekend ahead of me. Originally, I was planning a long romantic weekend in a beach hut. But that didn’t work out. So, plan b. We’re having a home improvement weekend. Yep… not that exciting… but I’ve put together a list of odd jobs we’ve been meaning to do for ages, years even… like hanging pictures on the walls. Beach hut. Romantic weekend away. Pah. It’s supposed to rain at the weekend anyway. So there (yeah… I’m trying to convince myself I don’t care… but I do, really). Still. These odd jobs do need doing. And in fact, I was reading this article today about how it’s not about having the perfect show home anymore, but a home that works for you. And that rang true. So odd jobs and baking. That’s my weekend.
I can’t wait to get back to baking. I haven’t been home much this year, and baking has suffered. We have had a serious shortage of baked goods about and this must be remedied. I miss baking. The intention is there. I just treated myself to Simply Sensational Cookies. It looks A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. And best of all, The Great British Bake Off is back. Addicted.
What else have we been watching… Top of the Lake. Awesome. So dark. So intense. So… unrepenting. Great scenery; beautifully filmed. And Arne Dahl. Beautifully filmed too. Gripping story-lines with baddies (mostly foreigners; the Swedes don’t commit crimes it seems) and a great Swedish police force. Good stuff all the same.
And looking ahead to the next few months, I have so much to look forward to. Treats. Lots of treats. A new season of Revenge. A second season of The Bridge. And the second instalment of The Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire. Oh that teasing trailer.
A big thank you to The Everywhereist for sharing this awesome link with us – ‘a life-size window installation of Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks (1942) on view inside the landmark Flatiron Building’s prow’. Actually, she gets extra brownie points (and if you follow Geraldine’s blog, you’ll know she’ll be up for those) for also sharing with us the amazing Chrome browser extension which changes all the images on a webpage to ones of Ryan Gosling. Keep them coming my dear.
